We attended a morgan herd reduction sale in IA in the early 90's. There were over 70 Morgans available, the majority from Coal Creek Farm. We hadn't arrived early to look at the horses or pedigrees prior to the sale, but I had a tendency to buy what "caught my eye" at that time. We ended up purchasing Tina, who was a 4 yr old and green under saddle. Much to my surprise, since we looked at her papers after our purchase, we also bought her dam, Coak Creek Onyx (Lindon Gates x Triple S Ebonella). I rode Tina for a year, then sold her to a friend who trailrode her. Five years later, this friend moved to MT and Tina returned to live with us and began her breeding carrer. Tina blessed us with seven foals; Kells Sassy Girl, Kells Onyx Pearl, Kells Nip N' Tuck, Kells Poetic Justice, Kells Early Edition, Kells Time to Rock, and Kells Tough Luck. A daughter, Kells Onyx Pearl, carries on Tina's legacy for us. Between all these foals our family rode Tina. We hadn't been using Tina, so in 2012 she was leased for an 11 year old to use for the riding season. She proved to be a bombproof trail mount, providing rides for the littles ones, and lessons for walk-trot beginners. Always a quiet, no fuss horse, who never drew attention to herself, she seemed to enjoy the attention of the young girls who fussed over her. Unfortunately, I arrived home to find Tina collicking. Our vet was quick to respond, but his and our efforts could not remedy her pain so a decision was made to ende her pain. Rest well Tina.
